Health Advantages

Health House - American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest

Hand-in-hand with our responsibility to the environment is our responsibility to the health of the owner. In every home built using a standard linear construction, the framing is exposed to the rain. When rain falls on the exposed framing, mold begins to grow and remains in the home forever. Because Parallel Building is done in a controlled environment, the framing is never exposed to rain. Homes built using Parallel Building do not have the same problems with mold that standard linear built homes have. For this reason, a child living in this home is statistically less likely to get Asthma than if he or she had lived in the same home built using the standard linear construction method. This home is one of the first pilot programs for the American Lung Association’s Health House program (www.healthhouse.org). This also requires that all paints, sealants, insulations and woodwork be non-formaldehyde based and have little to no off gassing.
